  • Welcome to The Healthy Pastry Chef?

Welcome to my world of food (desserts, mostly), travel and language.

'The Healthy Pastry Chef?' is the result of a long and continuing journey in trying to balance my love for desserts and all things sweet with taking good care of myself, and beating sugar addiction.

Alongside the many indulgent recipes, you'll now find a lot more healthy recipes, tips for getting over sugar addiction, and a few bits and pieces about both physical and mental health. For the full story behind the recent changes, check out the 'About' tab. (NB Update in progress)

To my wonderful current readers, I hope you enjoy this new direction and all that's to come next. Similarly, a big welcome to everyone that has newly discovered this site!

    Love,
    Zoë

2013 Adventures So Far

I can’t quite believe it’s almost May already. I have absolutely NO IDEA where the past few months have gone, but they’ve certainly been both action packed and brilliant for the soul. So here’s a little round up of just some of what I’ve been up to so far this year…

Adventures in Vietnam

There was a small window where I wished that I hadn’t decided to break up my journey home with a jaunt to Vietnam (ha, if only I could sound that well-off now. There’s less than $2 in my bank account), but that was very brief. Vietnam is one of the most colourful and exciting countries … Read more

Hearty Moroccan Spiced Tomato and Chickpea Sauce

This sauce is inspired by a lamb, spinach and chickpea casserole that my mom used to make. I couldn’t get enough of it on a cold winter’s evening, so she would make vast quantities in her Le Creuset. It was healthy, hearty and eating it made me feel like being bundled up in a warm … Read more

Chickpea and Tomato Baked Eggs

So, this time my lack of posts is due to three weeks of rest, recuperation, surf, sea, sand, adventure and an insane amount of fun. More coming on what we got up to soon, but for now, I give you chickpea and tomato baked eggs. This dish made for the most delicious and nourishing breakfast. … Read more

Peace and Quiet

Well hey there! Travel and blogging unfortunately two things that don’t exactly go hand in hand. I have missed this corner of the Internet a little bit, and all the activity and preparation that goes into a post, but at the same time it’s been amazing to be cut off from the world for a … Read more

New Lessons Learned

Well friends, it looks like good old WordPress has finally got my new domain up and running. Yipee! Please bear with me while I finish up the full transition – I’m well aware that the ‘About Me’ still needs updating and the categories section needs a lot of work. But once again, thank you so … Read more

Mexican(ish) Chicken Wraps

Ok, so first things first. The response to the switch over from ‘Zoe’s YumYums’ to ‘The Healthy Pastry Chef?’ has been overwhelming. All your kind words and support are so humbling. It’s also wonderful to know that I’m not alone in this journey, and I hope that those of you who are also struggling with … Read more

The Healthy Pastry Chef?

This has not been an easy post to write. The past year has been a very  personal journey and one of huge changes. 2010 and 2011 were too, but last year was, I suppose, the culmination of the previous two. I changed city country sides of the world, changed studies/career, and finally, towards the end, changed the … Read more

Cheesecake; Plain and Simple

A very quick and simple post today, that I’ve had sitting in the draft pile for quite some time. There’s going to be quite a few changes around here, but while I finish working those out, I present to you one of my  current favourite desserts. New York Cheesecake, but with an Oreo crust and dark … Read more

Homemade Vanilla Extract

This post is for my pal Alan. We made friends while filming for our little episode of  Channel 4′s ‘Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard’ and he has since gone on to expand his celebration and novelty cake business. He’s done AMAZINGLY well in such a short time, and his products always look absolutely fabulous. Photos … Read more
